Crappy Dive Boat on Maui Hawaii

floridagulfpalms... I hear your pain. I have, in the past, had some pretty strong words about a couple of the operators on Maui. And it seems nobody really cares to listen to those most of the time either.

Just so everybody is clear:

1. the Maui Diamond II is **NOT** owned by Maui Dreams. It is managed by them currently, and the dive staff of the two operations is VERY different (though Maui Dreams instructors often use the MD2 for boat dives when the course needs it)

2. the "Katherine" on the Maui Dreams site is a DIFFERENT "Kat" than MD2. The MD2 Kat has been working on the boat since before Maui Dreams took over the booking/management of the vessel.

3. there is virtually NO way that a diver would be allowed the freedom to NOT follow a DM. Even instructors are usually questioned thoroughly before being awarded that privilege if they are unknown to the op.

4. I'd strongly recommend you PHONE the operator. Many of the Maui ops seem to have trouble keeping up on e-mail... while Maui Dreams is VERY good at it, I suspect that the MD2 staff aren't.

Not to be OT, but texting has absolutely destroyed the english language. It hurts to read some posts.

Don't mean to threadjack, but couldn't agree more. So proud that my 11 year-old posted this to her status on Facebook:

"Listen. I do not enjoy it when people use bad grammar. It makes me feel like I'm talking to a computer, instead of my friend. Please type the way you talk! For example, would you say to me: "hey, wat r u doin?" Or in a school paper? HUH? So please, at least when I have the potential to see it, use good spelling..."

I have asked people if they have a Qwerty keyboard, and would they kindly use it - but I have a rep as a bully I think, so try to restrain myself. I am also guilty of a few abbreviations here, i.e. thru, TY. :sad:

Texting or emailing a phone, recipients often have to scroll between two parts of my messages tho, as I do tend to spell out words that many abbreviate. Hey, isn't that what Predictive Texting is for? It was one thing when messages were 25c each, but now that they are usually free - take time to spell the word or call me. Hehe, I always ask for a phone call by the third message anyway.

We sent them an email explaining how unhappy we were. We had NO reply. And that simply indicates that, they either know how they operate; or just don't care.

Sorry to to be such a negative Nelly but, everyone can have a good experience with a dive company, or a bad one; like in our case. We did do 2 charters after our experience with them. I will not mention the company. But, it was all we are used to, and expect from a professional company that has integrity.

Why would you not mention the company/operation with which you had your positive experience?

Good call. Some might have thot that earlier on here. Glad you found one you liked.

Did you drive up top the dormant volcano there? I did that once, after getting off a puddle jumper from Honolulu wearing shorts. When I drove thru the could and then saw Oahu stick up thru them across the channel, I felt like I had driven off of the earth. Then I got to the parking lot and got out. Brrrrr :cold:

This is funny, but I gotta jump in here. Why do some people think it's PC to say things like "Asian girl" yet they would never say [in public] "some black guy, some middle eastern dude..."

Don't get me wrong, I'm not the type of Oriental guy that normally gets offended by that stuff but I think you saying stuff like that discredits you a bit and makes you sound like an angry, Asian girl hating person.

I'm not a dive op so don't play that one either. Coincidentally though, a couple years ago when I visited Maui I did book a Carthaginian & Manta dive through Maui Dreams and dove with Maui Diamond and I do remember a girl that fits your description. I didn't have any problems with her or the crew, but I'm a pretty easy going guy - actually I remember having a nice chat with them.

I think it was said only as an identification description. I certainly don't care about person's racial background, but might well say Asian girl, black guy, middle eastern dude, Hispanic fellow, blond girl, redheaded guy, etc purely for identification - except I might get some the racial IDs wrong. Gee, that makes you sound like an Oriental guy with a chip on his shoulder, but then I could be wrong about that too - just as I think you may have been.
