Cozumel - Allegro or Grand Xcaret?

I'm trying to book a trip for the first week of February with four friends (I'm the only one who dives), and it seems like the hotel choice is coming down to the Cozumel - Allegro on Cozumel or the Grand Xcaret in Xcaret (oddly enough).

Any suggestions on which is better for divers and non-divers?

I'd like to go over to Cozumel for diving, but from what I've been able to find, it looks like I'd have to get around 5km north to Playa Del Carmen and take the ferry across from there.

I've got a ton of questions.

Is there good diving out of Xcaret? Is there a direct ferry from Xcaret to Cozumel? Would any of the dive shops on Cozumel pick me up in Xcaret? How hard would it really be to get across to the Ferry? How long is the ferry trip from Xcaret or Playa Del Carmen to Cozumel?

Through the web I've found answers to most of my questions, so really I guess I want to know:

1) If the Allegro and Grand Xcaret are both decent hotels.
2) if it's reasonable to think I could dive Cozumel for a couple of days from Xcaret.
