ScubaMilo:
I would not recomend the swap back and forth method.
For one to be done right a torque wrench should be used.
Number two if you were to screw up the threads some how, you could be left buying a whole new reg.
I vote for bite the bullet and spend the $20-$40 dollars it cost for the adapter.
Just my 2 cents take it for what it is worth,
Milo

Well yeah, I mean if you're a total dork then by all means, buy the converter.....

Actually, Milo has a point. If you're not confident get someone else to do it for you. Either way, do *not* throw away your old yoke or let the shop keep it.

Generally speaking, in order for a DIY approach to be advisable, you should both have appropriate tools to do it properly and be able to thread something together without stripping it. If you don't already have a torque wrench, you probably aren't going to save much by buying one of those instead of the adapter unless you either plan to do it for multiple regs, or you were planning to buy the tools for something else anyhow.

Of course, you could do it without the torque wrench, but strictly at your own risk. The potential problems probably justify the cost of the tool, when weighed against your safety and the cost of potential repairs to the reg.

Nether my Sherwood or Oceanic specified torque figures. All that is required is some common sense and an adjustable wrench. As for cross threading, these are very coarse threads if you can't get these correct you have no business even owning a pair of pliers. ;)

I lucked out buying our Sherwoods as DIN from the start.

I have the adapters in case we have a sudden need to hitch onto a yoke tank.

Recently I picked yoke connectors for small $$ on Ebay. I'll install them for a springtime trip to Bonaire. Finding deals on DIN is hard.
