Gosh darn Brits, they are *******izing our threads with silly irrelevant basuras!!!! Emperialistic porcines!!!

hence why I told him to PM me, so you could all get your handbags back out and go back to having a pointless argument about something you are never going to agree on uninteruppted.

Hehehe you said porcines.:D

Enjoy your silly little battle, I'm putting my handbag away and going to do some work

Very good point. But you missed out Queen, tut tut. I'm sure we have some decent bands from the last 30 years too!

Nice sales pitch, nothing like sucking up to the customer first :D.
Our dry suits haven't arrived yet, there was a screw up with the order. Shouldn't be long now. We aren't definately going to do the course with Alpine though, I think it might be cheaper with a store in Casper. Although it would be good to meet you- sounds like there wouldn't be too many arguments over which music to play during surface intervals!

Yeah, plenty of descent bands in the last 30 years, although the ones I listed are such classics. I'm sick that I missed Queen! :11:

I didn't think that you would do the course through Alpine. It should have been more simple. As the spirit of this thread originally inferred, you don't have to get the specialty. Someone could probably show you the ropes!:crafty:
You two should join some of the RMOs at Blue Hole one of these days. You guys get down to Fort Collins and I'll drive from there!:coffee:
Where did you end up ordering suits?

well my teacher told me that most of the courses are a waste of money like dry suit but they taught use it as part of the ow class she also said boat diveing and other ones are a waste of money as most boats tell you how to dive off them and lead you around so you dont have to do anywork just follow them around... yes most courses are a waste of money but there are ones that you should know and some lds add the specialty into their advanced class anyways...

and just saying i spent more then you did on geting my seld certafied with midrange gear.. i figured i only have to buy it once and why not its not like i have anything better to waste my money on...

Never took one. But a good instructor should prepare a newby on the different techniques of entry, the danger of rough sea, the danger of getting hit by a ladder, etiquette in entry and reentry, poor visibility and danger of surface traffic, the need for staying with the "group" as a boat captain can miss the bobbing black head, while keeping an eye on the large bubble mass, the need for back up lighting for night dives (keep the darn boat from hitting you in emergency situation)....

And where exactly is a course needed for any of that ? Surely a combination of common sense and a decent boat-brief from the crew should easily solve all that.

DD- we will definately get to BH at some point, thanks for the invite, but I think it might be worth going through the motions of a drysuit course so we can have a pool session with feedback before we go somewhere where it actually matters if our bouyancy sucks. I'll keep checking the RMO forum for dates.

EDIT- suits were from divetank, thanks for teh advice. They screwed up a little (orderd one in the wrong size) which is why we don't have them yet, but they were super helpful on the phone so we aren't mad at them!

haha- I wouldn't agree that dry suit course is a waste of time- I imagine getting inverted through too much air in the legs is fairly disorientating, or getting a leak in cold water could be really nasty.. or having different bouyancy characteristics would be hard to manage... these are all things I could practise and figure out myself, but I would like to get help so the learning curve is less steep. But that's just my gut feeling, if you are happy to just go ahead and do it that is fine.

I think you miss some of the point. The boats, and the crews, are the problem. Especially when you got DM and instructors as cocky as you are in control, certain accidents are going to happen.

Case in point - DM and 3 divers recently died off Egypt - high waves, current, boat dive - 4 possibly preventable death. Who is at fault?? Can't blame it on anyone when it happen.

You just assume that you will be diving with idiots, DM included, and be prepared for the best.
