I just called Rainbow Reef. They said there is no problem using Deep Diver certification on the dives requiring AOW.

Hmm, what are the chances that the DM kid on the boat has no clue and repeats whatever they read on their FB group, whereas the admin person answering the phone does the actual insurance paperwork, and does? 🤔

In my call, the person answering the phone had to check to get the official response and called me back an hour later.

The DM on the boat is not really the decision maker. If you are doing a dive that requires AOW, the check happens in the office. Anyone allowed on the boat has been cleared.

I never got AOW, but got the deep specialty. I've never been questioned prior to a dive. I've never been refused a dive.

I never got a deep neither, and never's been asked, but then again: we don't go to Florida.

I dive in Florida every winter. I have never heard of a shop there (or anywhere) requiring a deep diver certification rather than just an AOW. The contention made in this thread was whether a specific Florida dive show would accept a Deep Diver rather than an AOW, and I confirmed that the shop in question would accept it.
