How many computer divers use a plain old watch as a back up timer?
What kind?
Are there any that I should stay away from?

I'm still shopping around for my first gear. Probably going to get the Air Z Nitrox, and was thinking of getting a watch as a backup timer just not sure what kind.

I'm leaning towards the fossil titanuim. It's rated for 200meters. I've had Fossils before with no problems. It's a lot cheaper than a lot of the other watches I've seen. Since it's a back up, I don't want to spend a ton of $$$ on it. And, yes I just plain think it looks cooler than most of the others I've seen!

Sounds like a good plan
I also use a Uwatec Air Z love it to bits.
I use a citizen Eco Drive Aqualand, I like it cause it has a nice analouge depth gauge and i can use it for assent if the uwatec ever dies.

For the watch I use an under $20 Casio from Wal-Mart. So far it hasn't failed me yet.

No computer yet, but going to buy some model of Suunto.
