Hello All,

Has anyone seen a recent comparison of dive computer manufacturers with respect to minimum conservatism?

Pete

What really matters is the number of DCS incidents that have occurred with different computers. Granted, won't be an absolute indicator because of operator error, but does say something about the algorithm and the user interface.

Are there any accurate stats available on that?

DAN is collecting them but have not seen any published results.

The real issue is you don't want the least conservative computer; you want the one that won't get you bent. Dive a conservative computer and decompress on pure O2 if you want to get out of the water faster.

I'm looking for info about the relative conservatism of the major brands of dive computers.

Suunto are probably the most conservative recreational computers, others less so. To Akimbo's point, better to understand why, they're just a tool.

I found some scubalabs comparisons of mainstream computers here: Gear / Accessories | Scuba Diving

less conservative - Aeris, Oceanic, Sherwood
more conservative - Cressi, Suunto, Mares
