I use an anaerobic sealant if there is no gasket, made by permatex called gasket maker
locktite make a similar product,

A very thin film is all it needs, its easy to use to much,
FYI it works well on threads very weak locktite, and doesn't let water in

Look at that filthy disgusting tube covered in muck what a disgrace

Ultrasonic your valves not your house!!!

Don't let your heads and valves and valve tool attack you and when you peen them in

Finishing lapping, starting lapping, for metal to metal, just add water and a horse

Because there is no room between the metals for even air

Just Imagine!

I have not the wherewithal to read this thread

I am a heavy equipment mechanic that's what happens,,,, grease and dirt, manure, etc,
Key is the two surfaces have to be clean,

When working on pretty things its cleaner,

I do have more than one tube,
it was handy, to take a picture

We're pretending to work on compressors in a clean environment, it's not farming day today

Except that bit

For me its everyday is farm day😉
But sometimes its,
Compressor day
Submarine rebuild day,
Scuba fabrication, modification day,
Dpv modification day,
Homemade rebreather day

Never mind all my other normal projects,

Jack of all trades master of none,

I've had the 3rd stage piston/sleeve knock a window into the pushing piston, sounded like the crankcase was filled with gravel when it happened. (This is from an MCH-16) Sounded very similar to the video posted.

To lap and where to lap and how much to lap, these are the questions
or the next question is help ScubaBoardians my compressor's leaking

See here it is the last stage piston sitting on the last stage ham
The sleeve is sealed at bottom Orings at the top metal to metal

You see in the circle of unhappiness we see a dent of the dumb
I was walking along, almost tripped over that dent of the dumb

full

Not much sealing there, so off to go find the circle of happiness
And so fortunately it was within the limit not to require welding
Here at last, many circles of happiness, heads 2 & 3 metal seals

full

Sometimes despite the butchery, a compressor mechanic told
me one day he “cleans” his surfaces with a wire brush, a bum!
But you can stop facing, when you come across an Oring seal

full

Why face this, why face that, that does not need any facing

As if your standards are at the top they're not at the bottom

Bums!

Bums!

I tried to quote the post in which the OP praised and recommended Filter Techs. The site said it added the quote to "multi-quote," whatever that means! But FT is right up there in my book, along with Porter Stiles' August Industries. Good people who know what they're talking about are thin on the ground....

Because

See the top of the piston sleeve thing where it was leaking
In the same place where the dent of the dumb was located
Have to hold in a lot of pressure there the design is not the
greatest not much metal to metal before I made it beautiful

full

Because

When it is not broken I'm going to splash a few hundred on
valves, and with out a clue put them in with snap ring pliers

Because

The only thing Bauer does, that is of much value at all other
than their compressors is their tool kit for only twenty bucks

Step right up, step right up, test your brawn, get that inch and a quarter valve
torqued down to 60Nm peened in and run for years with your snap ring pliers

When you can barely get it out with the proper tool and the pissy handle provided

Here's a partial picture of my partial angst

No it's not underneath an old shitbox car, it's an in service breathing air compressor

Nice isn't it.

From a QLD dive shop

Bums!
