comfo-bite vs moldable mouthpiece + compatibility?

I've got a Hollis 200LX regulator. I find the default mouthpiece quite uncomfortable, as it seems like I always need to clench to keep the thing in my mouth. I'm wondering if a comfo-bite or a moldable mouthpiece is the better option? Also, how do I know which mouth pieces will fit? I thought they were all universal, but from previous threads here that doesn't seem to be true.

I love my moldable mouthpiece that I have on my Scubapro A700.
You are correct, mouthpieces are not universal in size. Check with the mouthpiece manufacturer for the correct size for your regulator.

Personally I like the comfo-bite mouth pieces and put them on all my regs. They are smaller and don't feel so bulky in your mouth. Also i don't have to bite down much at all and with the bridge that is in it I can hold it in with my tongue if my jaw gets tired.

The mouldable mouthpieces should last you a lifetime. I have them on all my primarys.

Try both. I never liked the stock mouthpiece that came with my reg and upgraded it to the mouldable piece. It was better but still just ok. To my surprise, I really liked the comfobite. Your jaw geometry, regulator weight, and house routing also plays a role in regulator mouthpiece comfort. For example, in some cases I prefer comfobites, but in other cases I stick with regular mouthpieces.

I love Comfobites but I use an emory board to smooth any excess ridges from the molding before use.

I am a huge fan of the comfobites. I used to get horrible jaw fatigue, but the comfobite was part of my solution. Another huge thing that helped me was changing my hoses. Now, I keep my octo necklaced and my primary on a medium long hose that goes under my arm and is on a swivel. I don't even notice the reg is in my house and its never tugging my head to the side.

You have to experiment, there's no way to recommend what you personally might prefer.

Personally the comfo-bites make me gag. I've tried and used a mouldable. It lives in my CCR spares box now after adding a drager gag strap. I normally use the plain bitewings and they seem to work the best for me on my OC regs. It's way too personalized to offer a recommendation on what fits your mouth

Generally speaking they are all compatible with only Poseidon being different. I prefer the DGX long bites, inexpensive, low jaw fatigue, and don't hold as much dirt/crud as the moldables.

I’m not a fan of mouldable mouthpieces.

If I donate my reg to a stressed diver, my mouldable mouthpiece that won’t fit his mouth is only going to impede my ability to get him calmed down.
