Well....I've spent most of my life in the far north and I've developed a real hatred of being cold. I think I'm going to go dry, and my wife approves (although it's possible I neglected to tell her the difference in price) ;)

I want to buy something reasonably high end....so I'm going to take a few weeks to research. I'll let you know how it all works out.

Thanks for the help. It's exactly the kind of discussion I like....humorous, opinionated, and lots of good information. :D

Just tell the wife that it is "life support equipment." Surely she wouldn't oppose this.:D

Finally made a decision and ordered a Bare HD Tech Dry....

Ice is disappearing and with luck I'll be diving dry in a couple weeks :D

I am wearing an oceanic 7mm farmer john with 5mm three finger gloves and 7mm boots.. I am good for about an hour in 1-4 C water with it.

I'd recommend switching the 3 finger gloves out for a sealed 5 finger like the XS dry 5 for more dexterity.

Good choice. Bare makes a good product.

I dove the whole summer last year in a full 7mm plus 7mm vest with a hood attached and it was great. I bought a used drysuit in order to extend the diving season, we had to stop mid october last year and it was waayy too early. This year, I started diving mid april in 4C water and it was great, I'm hoping on doing a New years dive in the St-Lawrence this year. I can stay easily in the water for 45mins at 10C (50F) but it's when I get out in the wind that I get sooooo cold. The surface intervals are much nicer in a dry; if its cold, you stay warm, if it's warm you can easily undo half of it...
