eating "clean" typically means eating quality nutrient rich calories. lean proteins, long lasting carbs, good fats. not junk food full of salt and sugar.
So it's a synonym for what we used to call "healthy" before the tactic of making up new terms to get attention in the viral media caught on. But "not junk food" isn't as catchy.
 
ya pretty much. i used to workout a lot. weightlifting. the term "eating clean" was a common term used for people trying to get bigger and stronger without gaining too much body fat. not as easy as it sounds.
 
Just have something reasonably decent available to eat after the dive ... a banana, some fast but not too fast carbs, sandwich, anything. Otherwise you will order the triple patty double bacon butty with cheese and end up looking like the local BSAC club, so much blubber it starts attracting the whaling ships. :poke: Just joking but not really.

Yeah, but I can make an exception in Mexico, right?
 
I think the best answer, stated earlier, is "it depends on you."

I tend to be able to go a long time between meals. I've had classes I taught go slightly sideways (e.g., think 3 or 4 different equipment fixes needed on the beach, students that needed more time, etc.) where I ate a really light breakfast at 6:30 am and might not have eaten again until 4 pm. (And not eating again until 2 pm is pretty routine for me.)

I don't recommend that. But it works for me. Maybe it's because I've been diving in cold water for 39 years and the first 20 were in a wetsuit. Maybe it's because I'm of scandinavian descent. Who knows?

However, low blood sugar is a real concern for a lot of folks.

If you're concerned, I might start by eating light first and carrying some runners "Gu-packs" with you on the dive. If you're comfortable enough to suck down this thick sugar mix underwater, that is. It'll give you a quick hit of sugar.

Others have suggested good options for the "stick to your ribs" kind of breakfast. I'd add bananas to the list: They'll keep you full awhile.
 
I dive wet in Nova Scotia (sometimes in winter). For breakfast, one piece of toast, juice, milk, coffee. For lunch (before two 30 min. shore dives) half a sandwich and a coke. After the dives, BURGER KING. Diving 19 years (am 70) with no problems.
 
Up here in the PAC NW........it doesn't get much better than popping open a nice big rock scallop to munch during the dive!
