I arrived in Roatan yesterday and am staying at Cocoview resort. It's a true dive resort where everything is setup to make diving easy. I have made five dives already since yesterday and will have an opportunity to do many more in the next eight days. I plan on cataloging my stay here for those who might be interested. Right now, the thing that I am enjoying is the beautful view at sunset.

How's the Christmas decor and festivities? Seen Santa?

No real festivities for Christmas, just good food and good company. Speaking of the food, it is really good and there is a lot of it.

So Christmas day and I have done four dives already and am getting ready for a night time stroll through the back yard. There is a storm coming in and it looks like we might get some rain. Terrible shame to have to get wet before getting in the water

There was some complaining about the vis around the Prince Albert today. It was only about 20'. Personally, 20' makes me really happy considering I usally dive in 6-10' vis.

If you are planning on coming here soon, I definitely recommend the Cabanas. They are very comfy and the internet connection is great in the first three. They will have another router up later this week and there will be internet for all of them.

Easier than a night dive at a rock quarry!!!

There is a chain that runs from CocoView down to a buoy. (You pick the chain up at the little island dock, it has plastic pop bottles attached every couple of feet to make it more visible U/W) You leave the strobe attached to the big buoy at the end. The wreck is straight out past it. You really shouldn't have too much trouble at all. My only concern is whether your newbies have done a night dive at all. If they have any anxiety I would most likely keep them closer to the buoy in about 20' of water for their first dive. Then head for the wreck after they've seen it in daylight once or twice. But that really depends on their comfort level.

Finding it and returning isn't very difficult at all. I don't use a compass.

It would be good not to use a compass... unless you were trying to locate this massive steel hulled wreck.

one has and one has not. Still will do a few day dives on the wreck before we do a night dive. What kind of strobe are you hanging off the buoy?
