....I read about the gas changing. I thought it was a easy system, if you plan your dive and dive your plan it will switch at the depth you wanted it to switch at. The only thing that you can't seem to do is change it if you planned it but they said if you make your stop a little below what you planned it will not switch.

My concern is what happens in something like a a lost deco gas situation? Yes, you have those on a slate/cut schedule, but I really like the Petral...

As to just using the most basic level (nitrox dive computer for recreational/techcreational), it is an excellent option (if the price is right).
 
I dived an EMC-14 for several years that I bought in inexpensively off a DAN auction (that dates it). It was a very reliable computer and I loved the decompression algorithm. It was not particularly user friendly and downloading was unreliable and time consuming. I wished I had bought an EMC-16 at the time and may have had a different experience. They've sold the same computers for many years, I don't know what has changed but would like to know.
