I'm not sure if shortening the tube is optimal for everyone :) (sometimes things get in the way, or so i hear)

Likely you have been more diligent about cleaning post nasty infection, hose length aside :)

I installed mine so that I point down, the tube is short, not looped up and it goes straight out of the suit. I use nonprene tubing that is a few inches long, from catheter to valve. Mine is a basic "hole to the outside" with a bolt and oring. Initially, I "looped" the tubing and "shore nuff" got a nasty bladder infection. Not a problem after shortening the tube. I also use my ear beer to fill and drain after I am done diving.

This is a great thread as we are about to become a 2 pee valve family.

i was just reading the manual for a valve I'm considering (DR) and they describe removing the valve to soak. That is a little more maintenance intensive than I was counting on. It also seems like a chance to mess up every time. Reading this tread it sounds like most of you squirt or syringe a disinfectant through the valve & plumbing and are good with that. I'd welcome any further input on your cleaning regimes.

Thanks,
Pete

I close the valve, shoot the tubing full of an alcohol/vinegar solution and let it sit for 30 minutes, before opening the valve and flushing the tubing. So far, no problems (a few years).

At least flush out using a large irrigation syringe, or even better, DeepSeaSupply's Power Inflator Flusher with a garden hose water supply.

Dry thoroughly with compressed air using a Trident tilt-valve AA02 nozzle . . .

if you use a QD, you can get a squeeze bottle and put the the same fitting on it that is on your she-p/cath side and use the fluid to flush and then when the fluid is gone, use the bottle to push air through (or if your bottle is half full, just turn the assembly nozzle up so that air is pushed through)

same concept with the bulb syringe.

They don't really recommend a lot of pressure, as many pee valves themselves have little mushroom and duckbill valves in them that can be damaged if excessive force is used.
Then DON'T use/install those pee valves that have little delicate mushroom and duckbill valves that can be damaged with vigorous water flushing & compressed air drying (like the Halcyon P-valve).

Use the generic, original, simpler, less expensive and more durable/robust version like this one:
