I'm really having a hard time with the over-moderation of posts and threads on this board. If you want to live in a sanitized society, find one where the leader acts like a dictator making secret rulings allowing secret invasions of privacy by governmental entities without benefit of constiutional protections or warrants and...and...and...oh...errrr...ah....well, ok, you know what I mean! I'd like to know why my thread was closed? I don't see anything in there that violates TOS...anyone?

You should be informed if a thread you started is closed or removed temporarily.

You're not the only one that is confused by these draconian measures. When you shut down free expression and muzzle any reaonable debate, you all know what you get. Is that what this board wants?

Draconian measures?

We have a TOS that we agree to adhere to when we join. I suggest reading it.

Well most of the time I am clean unless I am dirty and sweaty cause I've been working.

But, and here is a shocker ... I am a Baptist Christian who has been known to attend movies, dance with my wife, and even enjoy a wee dram of (neat, single malt, Islay) Scotch.

So would that keep me from the C&S club? Or was the C&S club intended for recovering alcoholics?

I'd like to remind EVERYONE that the ScubaBoard.com website is a PRIVATELY OWNED site and we are all permitted to participate on this board by the INVITATION of the owner.

Being a privately held site gives the owner sole intellectual rights to determine what he finds acceptable and unacceptable to be posted to the board. With that goes the right to "uninvite" any member or members.

It's about private ownership.

Keep in mind, folks, this is a private site, and even though the 1st Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America does not apply here in its full force, the owner dilligently tries to provide a forum where topics about scuba diving can be discussed in an intelligent, mature and civil manner.

Which is exactly what I said in a related post under a different thread. Private. Non-gubmint. It's a good thing noone tried to make it a "you name it" only board :D

I agree. I've seen a lot of posts complaining about posts being closed/deleted lately. If the thread starter has a question, they should PM the staff and find out what is going on.

People should realize that everyone has a different tolerance for what should or should not be allowed. From what I can see, things are done here by a committee, and that is pretty good. It's not a single person dictating their wishes. One thing that I think some people forget, consiously or unconsiously, is that this board exists out of someone's good will. Sure it's paid for by advertising, sponsors and by some people paying membership dues, but it's still operating under the terms of service that is listed. A person is allowed to speak their mind, according to the TOS. And if that isn't good enough, then they should open their own unmoderated board and see what it degenreates into.

ScubaBoard is one of the busiest Internet forums that I have ever seen, and I have been involved with the Internet since the mid-90's, and I think that the staff here does an excellent job maintaining a civil forum that we can meet and discuss a variety of subjects, mostly scuba-related. Keep up the good work.
