For those of you who wish to have an online resource to check the port status - you can now check the status every day. Status will remain OPEN until it's not - haha! On days that we are expecting a norte or have had a norte - I will update the status each morning after the official Harbor Master report.

Nothing fancy, but it can be found on the right sidebar here right above the Weather widget :)

Thanks for propelling this information into the 21st century. Something even the Mexican government didn't do.

Very cool! Thanks, Christi!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! That’s the kind of customer service that just might earn you my business - now if only you had HP steel 120 tanks.
With free nitrox! :rofl3:

Hahahaha - thank you - let's not go overboard :D It truly is my pleasure.
I always thought the purpose of SCUBA WAS to go overboard. How else can we blow bubbles? :)

For those of us using teeny tiny phone format, its there when you scroll down to below the trip advisor seals of approval.....

and it gets used for the first time today - this port closure is very bizarre to say the least - sea is calm

Y'all need a Plan B for nortes. Coz is great location for diving, but not worth the trip to just drink beer and watch football while the breeze is blowing. Curious why u don't dive the East coast during nortes. We were on Coz for recent port closures. Took a drive over to East coast. It was flat calm and there looked to be several easy shore entries with at least some shallow reef life. We couldn't find any shop willing to go despite statements to the contrary. We tried to hire a dive guide or just rent tanks...couldn't do that either. So we ended up commuting to Playa on the ferry and diving over there.

When the winds are out of the east NO ONE can dive over there, even if a boat is stationed over there.

Logistics are an issue and it is not quite as simply as it may seem.

Additionally, if the port is closed, boats are not permitted to leave the marina to get around to the east side - it's also not a quick or easy trip around. Leaving a boat that is permitted for the marine park stationed over there is not a viable option - even with nortes somewhat predictable a day or two out, it's quite an operation to get the boats over there IN CASE there is a norte. There is not a safe and secure place to leave boats over there on a regular basis, especially since the predominant winds 90% of the time are EAST to West. There are REASONS no one dives over there on a regular basis.

If we (and others) had extra boats without Marine park permits we could make arrangements to leave a boat over there like Aldora does.

With all of that said - the port should be opening up soon - the port closure this morning was totally unwarranted - POrt Captain must be in a bad mood or hung over - haha

I won't speak for her, but have you seen the East side? Not exactly much infrastructure to service dive boats. And if the port is closed, how exactly are they going to get their boats out and around to that side. Statistically speaking if you look at the amount of days lost to nortes, there's not way in hell it would be worth the $$$ to even mess with it.

And FFS before anyone or Dave says it, yes we're all perfectly aware that one obnoxious dive shop does dive the east side. And if you listen to how much they have to go through to do it, there's a reason nobody else does.
