Does anyone know what the maximum CF memory card that you can use in the Oly c5050 is? They have up to 8gb cards now. Actaully, info on the max of all cards would be useful. I have written the Olympus company with no response. (Probably because these are no longer made) I am making a quick trip to the FL Keys & want to get larger memory cards. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Thanks, Now I am searching for the cards to buy. W-mart doesn't carry XD in 512. I found some on ebay but they state they are XD "M"512. will "M" cards work? (like ebay item #270252286322). I also found some Lexar 1GB 133x speed cards but they are "Wa" (Write acceletation) does that make a difference?

Thanks,
Rhonda
P.S. I see you are in Hermosa... I used to live in Redondo

The M cards will work - they are the older, slower cards - type H cards are the newer, faster versions (I don't have a clue why they are called H...).

Only way to find out if newer CF cards will work in the 5050 is to try them. Remember, the 5050 is several years old. Make sure the camera's firmware is the latest - see olympusamerica.com - and use your camedia software to do the update.

When I was shooting 5050s, I used CF cards (1 GB or less). You can shoot all day with a 1 GB card at high res jpeg. The xD card was in the slot; I just never used it.

Not sure how big you can go but 1Gs work fine. I see no real need in getting larger cards, a 1G will hold 135 raw and around 260 hi res JPEGS. Your going to have to change batteries after a couple of dives anyway so might as well change the card as well. Price is another consideration, I found high speed 1G cards a while back for $10 each delivered.
512 is the largest XD card it will take, M or H will work. I keep a 512 in mine as a backup just in case I have a full card and that once in a lifetime dolphin decides to play with me.

Thanks so much for the help. Will shop for them online again.
