Once again, you are off topic. It’s not about buddies.
But for your sake, I asked him the same question about closing the valve and his answer was priceless: I am a Professionnal and I don’t want to scare the customers at the surface with my bubbles. This shows that he was completely in control. I wish I could do the same.
I beg to disagree that you should want to do the same.

If you are on single cylinder, unless it’s closed shut or leaking extremely fast, just breathe from it and ascend. That’s a lot less risky than doing a cesa.

bring a pony

At least that’s not controversial here :)
What😳? I have read a SB thread a couple o weeks ago with a fight between pro and anti-pony. It was bloody. But I did not intervene.

@Dody probably understanding how those people ended in a situation that required a CESA would be more productive for your future diving career.
If I say a Pony, I will be shot at 😇

You either presented the fact that said individual is a GUE instructor as relevant for the CESA discussion or it was off topic.

As I assumed that you were not going off topic, I was just pointing out that it was odd that a GUE instructor required a CESA or that he was not following the procedures of the agency.

On a different note, "completely in control" and doing a CESA are not quite compatible.

How does a pony lead to a CESA?

I never saw one between pro pony and pro CESA.
I think he's referring to one started by someone trolling and it went for over 100 pages if memory serves me.

I get that. That thread, this thread, and all similar threads wind up being a shite show. Convergence is never achieved. People dig in their heels and won't consider different points of view. That's fine by me. Dive and let dive.

I understood that. My point was that a discussion about pony bottles is different when you consider the only plausible alternative to be a CESA.
I mentioned a pony because if he’s really concerned of running out of air at depth and to do a CESA, it makes sense to have redundancy.

Whether he will need it or not, at least that will give him one thing less to worry.

I guess your point is that your buddy is your first redundancy on a single cylinder setup?

It’s never too late to be a trend setter 😂

I was actually not advocating any specific redundancy (buddy, pony, doubles, etc). Just saying that a pony (or anything) is better than a CESA and that the people against it on a different thread were probably not mentioning a CESA as an alternative.
