Here are a few more tips. Don't pack a bunch of clothes. We know we will usually end up buying a shirt or two from the dive/gift shop. So pack 1-2 fewer than you need and buy them at the beginning of your stay.

That is the dead center truth. I pack two shorts, one will be wet, one will be dry (and I wear one). Wear one pair of deck shoes. One 2mm body wetsuit. Two short sleeve shirts and 3-4 tee shirts.
Underwear for each day. An extra set of glasses in case I loose one. I usually take a book or two. The rest is dive gear. Last time I rented a camera, so it was already there, I might do that again, taking that Ikelite housing and strobe is such a drag.

Yeah, I am starting to wonder what I was thinking getting my wife a DSLR for Christmas. That thing is going to make her old Oly5050 rig look nice and compact by the time we get it all housed up and strobed. I was thinking I would take the old rig as mine, but I am thinking I may simply not have enough room.

ok just so I am thinking correctly. It's a 55 lb checked bag and a 15 lb carryon per person correct?

I may be flying in a wetsuit.

Oh...and one more tip. If you take your camera tray handle off to make it fit better and use a wrench to do it, make sure the wrench is in one of the bags that will be checked through for all of your flights. Last year on the way out from GC back to Houston, I made the mistake of leaving a 9/16" open end wrench in the pelican with the camera gear. Had to stop, unpack the entire pelican case at security and hand over the wrench because I wasn't allowed to carry it on. I am really glad my verbal editor was engaged before I asked if the guy thought I was planning to take the plane apart one bolt at a time while we were in flight.

It is 55lbs checked...can be in 1 or 2 bags, and one 15 lb carryon. But again, the penalty for going over is not very steep... just 50 cents per pound. So even if you bring an extra 50# in a second check bag, you are only going to pay what United would make you pay for a 2nd bag ($25) each way. Now if everybody brings too much, some of it might get left behind and brought over on the first flight in the morning...but LCBR is exceptionally accommodating about loaning gear to folks whose luggage is delayed. But I wouldn't let the slight cost of going overweight cause me to do things that would make me miserable while flying or uncomfortable in the water.

This is good to know. The problem for us is not the clothes, it is the stuff, like cameras, etc., that need to be carried on. We use an LL Bean rolling duffel for clothes. It only weighs a bit more than 8 lbs. That is over 41 lbs of clothes! We never carry close to that, but run close to 50 lbs in stuff I don't want to check as luggage. We'll break some of those rules this time and check save a dive, safety sausages, and misc. other stuff get the carry-on weight down.

Wanted to provide an update since I have now returned from LCBR.

Going to Little Cayman, my husband and I the following:
-- A checked suitcase totaling 50lbs containing 3 wetsuits (2 fulls and a shorty (I get cold, easily)), 2 BCs, 2 sets of fins, 2 pairs of boots, suntan lotion, and our tool kit.
-- A carry-on size suitcase (packed to be checked at the gate) weighing 30lbs containing the arms and trays for our cameras, clothes, snorkels, a couple of hats, arm floats.
-- A 2nd carry-on size suitcase (checked for Grand Cayman to Little Cayman flight) weighing 25lbs containing our regulators, batteries (including spares) for our camera strobes, and all of the electronics to charge everything
-- A camera bag weighing 15lbs that we carried on all flights that contained 2 housings, 2 fisheye lens, 2 macro lens, 2 photo lights, 4 strobes
-- A backpack weighing 15lbs that we carried on all flights containing our prescription masks, 2 bags of liquids, laptop, razor, other misc items.

If I had to do it again, we would pack one less quick dry shirt/shorts each. We had 4 sets of quick dry shirts/shorts, and could have done it with 3. I did not use my shorty, but that was just because the night dives were cancelled. If we had done a night dive, I would have use it.

Hope this helps people are are trying to plan out their gear before heading to Little Cayman.
