Does GUE take out minimum gas for cave dives? I seem to remember hearing something about it.

Nope. The amount of extra gas taken is so large that the concept of an elevated SAC rate and then having extra for the "ascent" is not really incorporated. Basically "rock bottom" is not really applicable to horizontally oriented diving its a vertical thing. Dropping more "straight down" into a hole like Eagle's Nest would obviously be a different dealio.

Cave 2 and up do the rule of 1/3 without first subtracting minimum gas.

Not necessarily. 1/3rds can be very aggressive depending on the site/team. At full cave regardless of agency you get to decide on the appropriate gas plan.

Good point. What I had indicated was the required gas planning by cert level. GUE Cave 1 Certs are restricted to 1/6ths and C2/C3 can use1/3d's but, to your point, may be more conservative if need be.

Sounds like you are ready to go. I am a newer caver and have been bitten as well. I am looking to get some experience and jumping in. If anyone want to go shoot me a message.

I am in Jacksonville and am willing to make any trip the the florida caves. Intro level for now.
