I'm going to dive at Catalina Island mid August. I was recently dry suit certified and thought that it would be fun to try it at Casino Point. It seems that most of the locals that I talk to say they usually just wear 7/8mm wetsuits. Any opinions? Thanks.

Most folks who've gone dry, stay dry.

If you can bring your drysuit, go for it. If not, a thick wetsuit will do you just fine.

I tend to freeze when diving wet locally. If you already have and can transport the dry suit easily, I'd strongly suggest you do so.

Hmmm...this time of year either way should work. Casino Point has a fairly limited shallow area. So if you are unsure of your buoyancy it may not be the best place to dial it in. But if you are it is a nice place to dive. And you can always do the 100 yard dash over to the Casino if you do not have a p-valve installed.

I don't own one yet. I found a local place that will rent DUI tri-lams reasonably.

I normally dive dry but last weekend I went wet and really enjoyed the water 66 deg @87' Nice!

Also: Is it easy to hook up with a dive buddy there?
Yes, just ask around.
