I always carry them on. Takes longer to get through security, but no problem.

Re the theft problem: that ain't no urban legend in some airports.

I recently flew from Detroit to Cancun and carried my reg's. and computer on board. No problem either way. I didn't even have to open my bag up.

Always carry-on my reg and computer..I check the rest and have never had a problem...
