Have done the "bag drag" twice this year with no issues. Actually, I kind of enjoy it :) There is more recent information than this hanging around here somewhere. 1st time I had a group, so I reserved a private transfer from CUN to Playa. 2nd trip was just the two of us and it was much easier to just jump on the ADO bus. Simple to pay outside before boarding the bus. Once in Playa, we walked over to the ferry pier and grabbed whichever ferry was next to depart. I'm not going to spend a whole lot of time worrying about a couple of dollars here or there. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. Enjoy the ride...

This is a great thread. I'm about to make my first trip there doing this. Does anyone have updated info to add?
Pricing has gone up on the ferries. Ultramar is 390 and Winnjet is 350 RT. Some of the Ultra Mar boats will have live tourist music that will pass around a donation can towards the end. When buying ferry tickets you will see several booths set on your way to the dock. I always buy my tickets from the booths right next to the escalator, I assume all the other booths are legit but don't know. I used Ultramar one RT last month. When leaving Cozumel all the Ultramar dock workers lines up on the dock and waved as the ferry left. I thought it was pretty corny but it shows they are trying to up their game.

The bus is now at 198 Peso's. Count on 1:20 bus ride going to the airport, excluding any major traffic events. The last 2 times I took the bus cab drivers were outside the station offering shared rides to the airport for 200 Peso's each.

Was that to or from the airport? I have found taxi fares to be negotiable in some places, but not at airports.

They had a guy with an electric guitar on the ferry coming back from Isla Mujeres. I managed to escape the noise down by the engines. The last thing I want is to be forced to listen to American rock and roll while in a different country. Now, if it was a mariachi band...

The last Ultramar ferry I took from PDC to Cozumel in May, they had a guy up top with a mic/amp/pan flute playing Mayan music. It was excruciating.

That bugs me as well. I guess they play loud American Rock in the restaurants and beach clubs to make the gringos feel at home, but if I wanted to feel at home I'd have stayed there.

Agree 100% That wears me out about beach clubs, bars, etc. I dont want to hear AC/DC, Def Leppard, etc in Mexico. Play me some good Reggaeton, etc and I'll be happy.

Just took the ferry both directions in the last week. The two choices I saw were WinJet and UltraMar. UltraMar is faster. I did see an attendant at the Barcos desk after disembarking in PDC, but I did not notice the boat except for the two moored up slightly offshore in Cozumel. UltraMar is faster than Barcos, too from my past experience.

Wow, I thought Barcos was banned by the government or someone.
