I am pretty sure Lamar Hires invented those extraction harnesses before Ed was even a cave diver. My first two body recoveries were with no such harnesses.

Ugh.

If you don’t wanna do it, don’t do it. Lamenting about it (fire/ems, mil, cave recovery) to others isn’t my style.

Yes it’s a risk. All of this **** is risky. There is mental risk and physical risk. If you don’t want to accept that risk you don’t have to.

Done all three so I can comment on all three.

So you don’t cave dive but you’re chiming in about cave diving.

Got it.
Not chiming in about cave diving. I was simply offering my opinion on a part of the OP's actual question which was whether or not what he was proposing was legal and apparently I made the mistake of reading what the OP actually wrote instead of what others think he may have meant. I even followed up and stated that what he was proposing was NOT OK in my opinion.

Also, I didn't just log into the "Cave Diving" forum intentionally. Whenever I log into SB I just simply click on "What's New" and if I think it's interesting or something I want to comment on....then I do. If the cave diving community has a problem with non-cave certified divers offering opinions or comments that they don't agree with on their forum, than maybe ya'll should just have Pete make the forum exclusive to Cave Certified Only divers.......... kinda like the Instructor forum.
Are YOU a certified cave diver?
I don't think that question was directed at me, but I still made it crystal clear that I am not. Are YOU a certified cave diver?
He probably looks like a christmas tree in the
water but will post in the dir section too.
Scubaboard rule: post whatever you want wherever you want. Youre experience and training doesnt matter.
Yeah..... I'm probably guilty as charged on that nice comment. Here's the best pic I have from last year prepping to backroll off my boat on my 68th birthday lingcod hunting dive.

As primarily a Solo diver I do tend to bring a lot of crap like 3 cutting devices, DSMB, SMB, marker strobe, primary light, back-up light, BFK etc..... plus two thigh pockets on my drysuit stuffed with back-up mask, signal mirror, extra fin strap, single shot signal flare, Nautilus lifeline with radio, spare non AI computer, fresh water pouch, etc....

Plus......and I know you cave divers are gonna just all love all this....... I also dive a back inflate BC, a back mounted 19cf pony valve up, ankle weights, Scubapro split jets, an Air 2.......and for the feast ala resistance...I even use what folks call a "suicide" clip on a chest d-ring for my fish stringer, speargun and cocking device!!!

So anyway...... Merry Flipp'n Christmas to all..........and to all a good and safe dive! I'll my best try to stay off the cave diving forum from now on.... Cheers!

Nah man it doesn’t need to be a closed forum. It’s totally cool and welcomed for non cave divers to ask questions, seek info, learn etc.

I think you got a little grief here because you’re opining about cave diving stuff without being a cave diver. There are very real ramifications regarding access when caves are dived by untrained people. Some by law (state parks, national forest property, WMA, etc), and some by spooked landowners that don’t want the liability. More caves are closed than are not.

I actually meant to add a note at the bottom that I wasn't actually directing that comment specifically to you, but to the typical person who comments on dir stuff but has no idea what DIR entails.
Kinda meant to make a generalization, not specifically in regards to you.
Didn't mean to offend if I did by forgetting to add that note at the bottom of my post. Sorry bout that

Hey..... No worries...... and thanks for these responses. I guess as divers we all kinda do things "our own way" and I can say with no hesitation that I totally and 100% respect you folks that cave dive. If I was 20 or 30 years younger I could see me taking on that path, challenge and adventure.

And last but not least..... for those of you cave diving guys and gals who volunteer your expertise, experience and time on recovery efforts to bring closure to the families and friends of the unfortunate...... 100% kudos to you!

In my opinion, anyone ....... at anytime...... can dive anywhere they want as long as the site is not under the legal control of others.
Seems a bit reckless

There. FTFTDHB (fixed that for the dead horse beaters). 🙂

Literally every single piece of gear you're wearing (except, maybe, the drysuit) would need to be reconfigured on day one of a cavern course.
