The OP asked if it was LEGAL for him to be escorted by an instructor on a cave dive.... My responses were based solely on my opinion of whether or not is was LEGAL.
The OP asked whether it was “legal, OK or whatever.” That sounds like the OP is saying he is isn’t sure what objections there might be, and doesn’t want to limit the question to just legal objections.

Quick question, I'm going for my Cavern certification next week and it got me thinking. Is it legal, ok or whatever for my instructor to escort me on a cave dive? Of course assuming we have all the required equipment. I was thinking that I'd want to get a feel for it.
If your concerned about being taken beyond your comfort zone while on a course then the turn/end dive signal can be used - any instructor worth their salt will honour that - but i would hope the instructor will ease you into something that is suitable for where your at, no shame, cave diving is not everyones cup of tea

Ive thumbed dives for all sorts of reasons, your there to enjoy it not endure it

Clearly the OP's intent is asking if he would be in violation of standards or if it would be considered diving "outside of his training" should he enter a cave with his instructor.

@Tigerpaw, I did precisely what you are contemplating and it was a great experience. Over 5 days I took IANTD "Essentials" and "Cavern." I competed Cavern on the 5th day and we had time for an additional dive. My instructor explained that there would be no drills. That he would not be signaling to me OOA in the middle of something, telling me to do a valve drill, or purging his reg by my ear so that I would have to "problem solve." Essentially, anything that happened was real, he explained.

What made this dive OK, not in violation of standards, or diving outside of my training was the fact that he took me after my cavern training was completed.

On another note, just because SAR are volunteers, does not mean they volunteer to be placed in harm's way at someone else's whim. They volunteer to rescue people/recover bodies and trust the rest of us not to exceed our abilities purposefully or ignorantly. They aren't "at our disposal" just because they choose to be SAR without pay.

The instructor would take you into an (easy) cave on an intro to cave course right after cavern course anyway - so yes, as a cave diver in training you do go into a cave, even thought you are not yet fully trained. But you are under instruction.

Can or should someone take you few hundred meters into a cave? Probably not, you would be a liability/impediment in case that something happened.

That's a fair point. I was just giving my opinion on the "legal" part of the question. As far as it being "OK or whatever"....... I definitely don't think it's OK and never said it was.

And..... I guess some folks here think that non-cave divers should not be allowed to have an opinion on the subject.... which of course is their right. Should divers that only dive in freshwater caves have a right to offer opinions on threads related to open ocean diving? Sure! No problem here...

I did my cavern course with a single tank so i could not do a “level up” dive. But when my wife did her cavern course a few weeks later i brought along the right gear that when she was done the instructor took both of us about 400’ back into the cave as a teaser to the next class. He is trained and insured to take people to the next level and it is a great way to see if you’ll like it!

Rarely! I am primarily a cold water Northwest diver and caves are not normal here. I still maintain that any diver.... anytime..... has the right to dive anywhere they choose.... anytime..... as long as they are not clearly trespassing or infringing on anyone's rights.
Sure. You can also commit suicide at any time. Your post has no real point since anybody can do whatever they want at any time if they dont care about the consequences. I can do a deep air dive to 400 feet. You’ll never see me again but I can do it. Not a smart idea thought.

I guess if you think that uninformed opinions are equal to training and experience, then you are right.

Thank you. That's exactly what my intent is.
