Cam Straps

I am not that bright so I may not have my the straps routed correctly but.. I used this picture as a reference. Are these routed in different ways? Whats the right way?

I cannot tell from this picture, but usually the (plastic) part that webbing goes through has 3 or 4 holes in it, so that once adjusted (wet), it doesn't move at all, keeping the same diameter. Same like on a conventional BCD.

You can look at the buckle on your weight belt if you use one, to check for proper arrangement of the webbing. Same system should be applied on the cam straps.

I had a bit of a tough time threading them initially. Once you get it and understand the labels on the plastic band (1, 2, 3, 4) mean, it becomes pretty easy.

I'm glad you were able to figure it out. I sat here and studied them for about 20 minutes and then another 20 trying to figure out how they were routed.

The Halcyon cam straps are excellent. I've never had a tank come loose or even close to it. Once they're on, they're on. Never coming undone.

I thread cam straps so rarely that I always have to stop and think, and try one or two things before it all comes back to me.

A friend of mine recently had me help her set up her new DSS rig just before we went out on a night dive, and as usual, it took me a try or two before I got the combo. Funny thing is, she ended up re-doing it a few days later for some reason, this time during the day, and nearly fell down laughing.

The DSS cam bands have little 1-2-3-4 numbers built into the cams to show the proper threading sequence! We just couldn't see it in the dark parking lot!

Very nice feature, if you ask me. Personally, however, I use the DiveRite SS bands on my [non-DSS] rig, and I like the rubber "plate" the cam rotates on (to protect the tank) vs. the stiffer plastic used in the DSS bands, as I think it holds a smidge more securely due to increased friction.

Heh heh. Me too. When I have to re-thread my STA, I only work with one cam band at a time, so I have the complete other one to reference. Same is true for my harness buckle: a good reference is key.

Halcyon cam straps have that feature as well (at least the newer ones do).
