Taking a cruise to Cabo San Lucas. Would really like to dive Cabo Pulmo but I don't think we have enough time. Can anyone tell me what our best options are? Should we book the dive excursion through the cruiseline or go off on our own? I appreciate any help! Thanks!

It took us all day on our trip from Cabo San Lucas to Cabo Pulmo. We were gone from 7:30am until about 4:30pm. It took 2 and 1/2 hours to drive there, then dive two tanks, eat and then drive back. It was on a dirt road for part of the way so they had to drive really slow. I don't think it feasible to dive Cabo Pulmo, but diving in Cabo is pretty good. You will see lots of fish, rays, eels, puffers but not much for coral. The dive sites in Cabo are so close in you could dive two tanks and still have time to wander around Cabo downtown. Have fun.

Our dive boat waited for some divers from a cruise but I don't know if they booked direct with the DO or not. We dove 9am til 12noon and I was back in my room by 12:30. You really don't have to worry about missing your cruise boat in Cabo, the dive sites are right there within 5 minutes of the cruise ship dock, and cruise ships. There are water taxis all over, if all else fails you could take a water taxi back to the cruise ship dock from the dive boat.

I'll coming down in 2 weeks. The original post has me wondering what to expect especially about the water temperature. While I am an advanced diver with over 100 dives I've never dove in an ocean. My experience is in lakes including the Great Lakes where thermoclines must always be taken into consideration. The post states the water temp is 72-73 degrees. Is that the temp at depth or only at the surface? If it's at depth I'll be in heaven. Looking forward to wearing a 3mill shortie and not 3mill gloves.

Hello Divers. You will need at least a 5mm with hood and gloves.Water will be in the mid 60s.
Cabo pulmo is not divable until Mid July and gos until mid Dec.this is an all day trip. Baja Dive takes a lot of cruise ship Divers and they will meet you at the dock.I dive with them two or three times a year and we are always back by 1.30pm Nice boat and small groups.

Thank you for your advice. I think we'll stick with Cabo for now. I'm soooo excited, can't wait! I've mostly dove in the Puget Sound so this will be a real treat!

The water was 72-73 at depth, although the DM said it continues to cool a bit until about May when it starts to warm back up again. I was expecting it to be in the high 60s, so I was happy too. But I am a warmwaterwuss so I had on two wetsuits AND a hood. Have fun, I hope you get to see the sea lions and the little black tip reef shark that we couldn't find.

Chocoholic, Thanks for the info and nice wishes.
IÃÎ almost of two minds about these dives. On one had I cant wait to dive in the ocean and experience all that it has to offer, including the warm water and vis thatÃÔ greater than 15 feet. On the other hand IÃÎ afraid once IÃ×e experienced these delights I might not want to dive fresh water again. Unless itÃÔ a wreck dive then IÃÎ all in. This make me wonder, are there any wrecks in Cabo? Not just piles of rust but real wrecks.

Hello Diver. There is a wreck at the point at lands end. Theres about 40 feet or so sticking out of the sand.I Dove it with Baja Dive In JAN. Memo the Dive Master knows where it is.Also on thre same dive you can Dive with the Sea Lions colony.Thr colony is about 50 or so lions and they are very playfull.

I really have enjoyed diving in Cabo. The water temps in October and November are great. Usually high 70's to low 80's. During this time of year seems to be closer to the mid 60's. I've used Amigos Del Mar for my boat dives. Primarily because they are a 5 minute walk to the dive shop and dock from where I stay (Playa Grande). They have always treated well in the past. I have also done a couple of shore dives at Chileno Bay. It's about 8 or 9 miles north of Cabo San Lucas. Nice Beach for non-divers (my wife) and quite a few snorklers when we were there. It offers good structure and easy entry/exit.

Have fun in Cabo. I have always enjoyed the town and if you are ever heading to Todos Santos from Cabo then i would highly recommend stopping at a roadside cafe/bar called Art and Beer. Great food and I highly recommend one of their specialty drinks called a "clamato". You won't be disappointed.
