I love diving Cabo. The Pacific side of Mexico is beautiful and depending on the time of year, you have good chances to see a wide variety of marine life (sharks, whales, dolphins, mantas, sea lions, etc.)

I've had good experiences at Gordo in October and December. Saw multiple hammerheads each time! East Cape Explorers is a great operation.

August is not a great time for La Paz, the sea lions are still breeding. September and October are better months for Cabo generally. La Paz is a very cute city and is pleasant to stay in!

Pulmo can be hit or miss. If you get a good site, it's great! But if you don't, it can be a pretty expensive okay dive. Your dive op has very little say in which sites you dive, due to a complicated lottery system. You could dive there several days and not get a top site.

Consider checking out La Ventana. Wind conditions sometimes prevent access to the island, but it's more wild.
I know August is not best at La Paz for sea lions but giant mantas migrate off La Paz that time of year so that's why I'm looking at La Paz in mid August. Trying to get out there before the height of the hurricane season and the holiday season doesn't work for me so have a kind of a limited window. Will take a look at La Ventana.
