If you are thinking of buying a used item from eBay, first find out what would be the best price you could get for a new one from the online dealers. Sometimes people bid up the price on eBay until they are paying more for a used item than new!
 
Actually that's true on some newer regs and computers, but I sidestep the issue by only buying old regs that are no longer made. Not because of any prejudice against new regs, it's just that the old ones (MK5/MK10, D300, 109) perform every bit as well as new models for the diving I do, and are extremely easy and reasonable to service. (with the exception of the D series, which are a little more specialized)
