so i bought new valves for two used steel 72's that i plan on rigging for use in SM. the valves came with aprox 5200psi burst disks and my LDS says i they are too high as the tanks rated operating pressure is only 2250psi. i believe they said i need aprox a 3400psi burst disk instead. does this sound about right ?? and does anyone know a good supplier for parts like this ? the place i bought the valves does not sell any burst disks.
thx
rick

PRD Safety Assembly (Burst Disk Kit)" style="border: none;">
In Stock

[h=3]> PRD Safety Assembly (Burst Disk Kit)[/h]
Safety Assembly (Burst Disk Kit) 3360 psi $8.00 Safety Assembly (Burst Disk Kit) 4000 psi $8.00 Safety Assembly (Burst Disk Kit) 5000 psi $8.00 Safety Assembly (Burst Disk Kit) 5250 psi $8.00
A one-piece safety assembly eliminates the possibility of mismatched components and reduces the likelihood of accidental incorrect installation of the safety assembly. This assembly fits all brands of valves sold by Dive Gear Express including DGX Premium, Dive Rite, Thermo and Blue Steel. However this assembly does NOT fit Sherwood or Genesis valves.
Type of CylinderServicePRD
Argon Bottles20153360
Low Pressure Steels24004000
Most Aluminums30005000
High Pressure Steels
34425250
These safety assemblies are described by their release pressure, not the service pressure, of the cylinder. Dive Gear Express recommends a new safety assembly be installed by a qualified technician whenever the cylinder is hydro tested and annually if the cylinder is known to have been overfilled.

I'm surprised they checked the burst discs.... I try to keep burst discs around hydro pressure, so under 3750 for these, I think mine have 3000psi in them, but it may be 3500psi. They should swap them out for whatever burst discs they are using for aluminum tanks. If they purchased the valves, they can purchase the burst discs, if they don't have them in stock then they aren't doing full service on tank valves like they should be.....

interesting post. i bought the valves at dgx and was just told today they don't have the burst disks i need. i have emailed them to see if they are still avail. thx for the link

There's a lot of "it depends" about this. Older style burst disks were separate pieces and you could replace just the disk. Newer ones are one piece. It is going to depend on the valve. Also, you didn't say where you bought the new valves from. If you bought them from that LDS and they are not willing to swap, then get the hell out of there and never give them any business. If you bought them elsewhere, then they should be willing to change the disk for you, but will have to charge you for them. And as others have said, there are plenty of online sources. Even Trident sells burst disks. So any Trident dealer should be able to get the right one for you. LP72s with 2250 markings are still routinely filled to 3000, so a 4000-5000 burst pressure disk is good.

I run 5250s in my 72s. I fill them to 3200.

I use new valves with 5000 burst discs on my 72s. Fill to 3000 routinely.

thx for all the input. our shop won't even fill these to +10% never mind 3 or 4000psi. they will fill steels 10% over only within the first 5 years. i know you guys in florida live by your own set of rules but up here that just won't fly.
dgx did confirm they do sell some other disks so thx for that link provided. they also provided a bunch more helpful info proving once again they go above and beyond when it comes to customer service
