I've done it on Ikelite compasses, Suunto SK-7 compass, Uwatec Bottom Timer, and am about to do it on my new Suunto D3. I don't like to use anything but bungies for instrument straps.

Dudes,
I JUST rigged my SUUNTO wrist computer on the 1/8" bungee cords and got rid of that crappy web strap! WHAT A DIFFERANCE! This is awesome! No way can this fall off my wrist or come undone. With TWO separate bungee’s it has redundancy. Sweet idea!

I'm glad you like it, ScoobieDooo. I just dove mine yesterday with Uncle Pug, and I've got no complaints. It felt comfortable and secure as can be. Plus, the "on and off" is much, much easier than threading that OEM strap. :)

Yea, its the cats meow....I love that design. There is no way I could have that rig come off and lose it now. Once its ON, its ON!

I think a large-size Waterborne strap (1" wide) would work as well. More food for thought.
That's what I'm using... Works okay on my TLS350 (Vyper goes on the wrist seal area).. but I am on the last hole. I like it because it works well for the tropical suit without having extra strap hanging out.

I wonder sometimes though, if this OEM wriststrap failure story is a SCUBA "urban legend". How many of you have actual stories about this.
I find Casios with one pin gone on the bottom at Catalina all the time.

My guess is that a lot more masks are lost off peoples heads!:D :D
Only in Andrew's classes :D

Maverick, you are saying that you cut the straps short, then drilled holes in the straps and attached bungie to the short straps, correct? This doesn't eliminate the loss potential of breaking a pin. You have created an easier to don vytec, but not decreased your loss potential. And if you ever want to go back to the original straps, oops :wacko: you cut them.
The loss potential is now the same as with Waterborne or bungee... both bungee's go through BOTH original strap pieces, so the loss of one pin still leaves the bungees (and Vyper) attached to the wrist by one pin.

pin|strap]==bungie==[strap|pin

Does it look something like this? With the pins attached to the computer? Or am I missing something? because as I see it, lose a pin, and there is nothing holding the watch to your wrist. lose a bungie and you are still attached with one bungie.

Seen this before - the bungee is still a complete loop of bungee, but passes through holes in the straps instead of directly under the pins. Actually sounds prefereable to me, as the load from the bungee is spread out by the remaining strap over the entire pin, rather than concentrated into two points along the pins length where it could act like a lever.
