I'm in Canada so pricing may be different for the US but for us the best bang for the buck is Hotel Cozumel (by Wyndham) It allows most dive ops to pick up from their pier, can be bought as AI or Bed & breakfast & is a relatively easy walk into town or to the south. This is my photo tour. (it has a new restaurant manager who is improving many things food related too.)

You could also consider booking an apartment through AirBnB-I personally haven't tried it, but you can find cheap options there, and you can lower your food costs. And if you stay right in San Miguel, you make it much easier to find a dive shop.
Thank you for your in-depth information. Very helpful.

Much thanks for photo album! Great help!!

I do not know about budget, but I booked a package through Aldora that includes five days of diving for two with them, and seven nights at Hotel Cozumel, all inclusive. I am taking this trip next week so do not have a report on it, but it works out to $2,968 for both of us. I worked with Aldora to get the quote and book the package.
Not a bad price for two with diving. Thank you.

few of us just came back from Cozumel last month. We stayed at Hotel Cozumel. All inclusive. Food OK. Alcohol included. Rooms clean, and include a hammock! Diving was good, but slow boats, so be ready for a long ride. DMs good.
Slow is OK. Takes me a bit to get ready. Thank you.

I'm not an AI guy but I just did a quick search and for about $161 per night, based on double occupancy, you could stay at the Occidental, the Allegro or the Cozumel Resort by Wyndham.

That's pretty inexpensive for AI. $1,200 for a week. Call the room $100/night, that's $30 per night per person for the AI.
That's what I'm looking for. Thank you.

No problem.

For the record and as far as I know, Cozumel Resort by Wyndham and Hotel Cozumel are the same place. Based on the pricing I saw, $3,000 for a room and two people diving means the cost of diving is about $1800 since the room is $1,200 for a week. That's $900 per person for diving which is about twice the price of most dive ops for 5 two tank trips.

Aldora uses large tanks and their prices are higher, but $900 for 10 tanks of diving is very expensive in my book. There must be some reason. Maybe the dates of the trip for the poster above made it more expensive, or maybe the room they booked was more expensive. Or maybe ncitro's price included airfare?

No airfare, but maybe its pricier then for some reason? It does include Nitrox, so that might be part. The price they gave me to add afternoon dives was $153 per person, so I suspect the hotel might be more than the 1200 for that week? Honestly it was almost half of the trip we were looking at taking to the keys (and that did not include any food) so we were very happy with it.

One justification of the expense that I have seen Aldora fans use in here is a calculation of the cost per minute of bottom time because of the larger tanks, but are you sure you have the pricing correct?
