I have a fishing trip coming up where we will be driving from the U.S. to Canada through International Falls and staying in a remote part of Ontario. I'm thinking of making one or two dives in Lake of the Woods while we're there.

Air fills are unavailable in this area.

I'm thinking of bringing full cylinders with me. My PST steels have both DOT and TC approvals, and have a hydro stamp from a U.S. shop. Are there any customs or compliance problems with bringing the cylinders with me?

I have never had an issue driving over the boarder and stating I was there to Scuba dive, although I never thought to specifically declare my tanks.

I'll second CTP21's comments. We've made more than a few trips to/from Canada to US with full tanks and have never been questioned about it. Canada customs did rummage through the trailer once but the only issue with the tanks was moving them so they could check the bags behind them.

I live in a "Border Town", and frequently have dives requiring a border crossing. There has never been an issue crossing with tanks (25 years of doing this) but, there were always problems with my Grateful Dead stickers on the truck. I always declare my scuba equipment. This includes the Thousand Islands Region, and Lake Erie/Ontario regions.

I will mention that there is a goofy requirement in Ontario (possibly all of Canada) that, beyond a certain number of tanks (it's a low number), they must be stored in a vertical position - but I have never been checked for that.
