Hi all !

Like most in this thread I'm the new newbie from Rio de Janeiro - Brazil.

Most of the times I dive in Angra dos Reis and Ilha Grande which is 90 minutes up to 2h drive from downtown Rio de Janeiro. The visibility is great during most of the year between 10 to 30 meters. There is plenty of life in the Angra Bay area. If you prefer the adventure and doesn't care about being sea sick go to the other side of Ilha Grande and you can find even better spots.

I also dive in Arraial do Cabo where I did my certification OWD+AOWD. It its also a very good place to dive but the water is rather very cold. So be warned to use at least a full 5mm suit with excelente gloves. Otherwise it wont be a pleasure... grrrr... coooollllldddd...

I have also made some dives in Salvador - Bahia in the Northeast of Brazil. They have excelent wrecks but mainly in the depth range of 20-35 meters so AOWD is a must. Also the dives are made mainly in the exit of the bay so heavy drifts and visibility conditions can be vary a lot. My advice is the dive only during full moon. If you get seasick get prepared...

My plans are to certify Divemaster and start my technical and cave certification. But I'm taking my time to get used with all types of gear and water conditions.

If you plan to dive in Brazil I recomend the following operators:
Arraial do Cabo - Rio de Janeiro - Deep Trip (http://www.deeptrip.com.br) - contact Antonio Sergio
Ilha Grande - Rio de Janeiro - ECO Divers Resort (http://www.ecodiveresort.com/) - contact Rene
Salvador - Bahia - BAHIA Scuba (http://www.bahiascuba.com.br)

Feel free to contact me,

Cheers,

Max

Hello Max, and welcome to Scubaboard. Sounds like you have already done some interesting and exciting dives. If you haven't already done so, you might consider also posting in the Destinations section of the board; when members or visitors are looking for information on diving in Brazil they are much more likely to search there than in this forum.

Dive safe and have fun.
