forgot to ask: why use a shock cord to keep the pocket from sliding instead of a pair of weight belt keepers? seems a more elegant solution.

The original question was for Raposa, but I'll bite:
An aluminum tank is only 3lbs positive when empty, so 10lbs to offset that seems kinda like overkill, unless thats the only weight you carry. If that works for you, cool. My legs are negative, so I don't have the problem of my feet floating up. Also sounds like you have the tank too low. Can you reach the valve like that?
As for your question: Thats just what I had on hand at the time, so thats what I used. It works, so I'll keep it until it doesn't. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
Elegance is nice, but I prefer it underwater.

For those who asked about weight, I am about 6' 1" and 175. I don't think buff's suggestion (get skinny) will work for me.
I use a custom two-piece wetsuit, the bottom piece is a 6.5mm full suit and the top piece is a 5mm shorty. That is the cause of some of the extra buoyancy.
Probably I can get my weight down with more experience. I just got certified this summer. But last time I used 30lbs total (including the backplate) and it's not like I sank like a rock, I went pretty slowly to the bottom. Of course at the bottom I had no trouble staying there. I plan to try 28lbs tomorrow and see how it works. Maybe after that I can use even less...
Thanks for letting me know about the cheaper pouches. I'll see if the sports chalet will price match!

If you ever want to try some Orange County diving, let me know. The vis up here has been averaging 25-30 feet.
