I recently changed from a jacket-style BCD (Oceanic Probe) to BP/W (from www.deepoutdoors.com).

What I miss with the BP/W are pockets to store stuff. On my jacket-style BCD, I had lots of large pockets, which held everything, like gloves (in case I take them off during the dive), lift bag, knife, slate, small light, etc. I don't have any pockets with my BP/W combination, so everything has to be clipped on.

Is this the way it's supposed to be? Are there other options? I really like the BP/W, but I miss the pockets...

You'll adapt over time. The knife fits next to the buckle; the light goes in a thigh pocket (on the list, right?); the slate should be conformal to your wrist; lift bags go in a pouch behind you or under a backplate pad.
Thigh pockets are a really Godsend here, but that opens a whole 'nother can of posts.

Glad you started this thread, I just got a BP/W also and was wondering the exact same. I love the way it feels, but no where to stash stuff.

Another take....

DIR style, the knife goes as prevously described, Halycon-style or similar lights (thin diameter) are clipped to the chest D-ring(s) and hang down attached to the webbing using a tire tube rubber or bungee ring. The slate or wet notes would be in your right pocket of your exposure protection (or pocket shorts).

I put a small SMB connected to a small spool in my left pocket becuase most of my dives are close to shore with little concern about being carried away. When I boat dive, I put a 4.5 or 6 foot SMB in my backplate pak, and longer spool in my left pocket, or occasionally on the rear D-ring.

Extra mask can go in the left pocket. I also keep my small camera in my right pocket (SONY T3, really thin profile in housing).

As Tom mentioned, thigh pockets are very common with people using a harness. Dive rite makes a thigh pocket that sort of straps on your leg and the harness that gives you a thigh pocket without having to glue a pocket on your wetsuit. I got one because it sounds like a good idea but I hated it. It moves around and snags on stuff and isnt really that big anyway. I bought it used from someone on scubaboard and the best part of the purchase was the SS screws he included for something else he sold me many months earlier! (thanks Boogie711 :) ) For me the money would have been better spent on some glue and a pocket.
I also happen to have a Dive Rite thigh pocket for sale if you have been dazzled by my sales pitch.

I didn't know they made a pink one yet. Who knew??

They make pockets you can hang off the belt. You can do that. Its not the best way, but it is workable.

There are several Drings on the thing - so if a diver can't clean up their Christmas Tree impersonation and leave half the nonsense they normally clip to themselves or schlep on a dive on the shore, they can always clip a few things off to those.

There is the BPD. Always stylish.

There are pockets on your exposure suit. I highly recommend these.

You FL divers can always clip a purse off to that silly up-line and toss your stuff in there - I mean, you're dragging that float around... why not make it do double duty? :10:

Ken-Love ya too man! Too funny! No additional pink for me, but I was thinking of adding some duct tape, for S&G!
Seriously, though, good ideas. I have that NEON orange bag that I got for shark tooth hunting. It's only about 5 x 8, and has a velcro closure at the top, it might work just fine..
Oh, Ken, I got jet fins now too :11:...scary huh?

Jenny,

At the Megadive I am sure there will be many divers in BP/W rigs, we will be happy to show you where to put that necessary gear.

And get this: Ken is building a wet rig... how scary is that. Johnny Drysuit is going wet for some dives (mostly the shore boulder hoppying types, and the Kayak dives...) I just ordered my smaller Jets yesterday.

Too funny.

Pay no attention to that Vlahos guy. He's greek and well, that's all you need to know. When you see him, ask him about Loch Levin and the Program Patrol... he'll have Ken stories I'm sure. (PM me and I'll tell you some Mark stories not fit for General Population...) :eyebrow:

Ken,

You're just saying that because I could run 2 miles faster than you could when we were in high school...

Oh wait, You could run faster than I could...
