I always thought that the Harbor was a little on the toxic side..has it been cleaned up enough for seafood consumption? :icon5:

Frizz:
Went out with Boston Diver Services yesterday as my first trip with them not expecting much..

This was the first time for me diving in Boston Harbor..On this trip Pat and Paul the captain and divemaster of the boat get to pick the dive locations..They were looking for the wreck of the Kiowa and i was to join in...

http://www.mwdc.org/Shipwrecks/Kiowa.html

They have been trying to re-locate this wreck for a few years with the help of a friendly Lobsterman (Yeah there is a few friendly ones) and his hang spots our first dive we found a boiler/turbine so we knew we were close...We moved the boat a few hundred feet and the next dive we were right on top of it!! The hull is still visible after 100+ years! The visibilty was over 10 feet and the water temp at depth was 46 or so... The wreck lies at aprox 50 Feet in High Tide and Wed we had little current making it a nice relaxing dive....

For our third dive we checked out a Scallop bed...picked up about 15 or so nice size scallops for a great dinner..Finishing our dive in the Boston Harbor...

I eat it... at least when harvested from the outer harbor. Heck, I even eat scallops raw from the Brewsters.

Yak? Are you interested if it isn't a scallop dive?

well ok, twist my arm
:eyebrow:

I'm not familiar with the depths of the Canyons, and I don't have an AOW. If it's one of those boats that requires it for a "deep dive" to 100 feet or whatever, then I'm out. (I have done dives to 106 feet and 90 feet)

The wreck lies at 50fsw according to the report. That should be do-able for anyone with OW.

As for the Canyons (if the captain is up for it), it's the trench on the eastern side of Outer Brewster on this chart: http://mapserver.maptech.com/homepa...&CFID=254356&CFTOKEN=78547103&&latlontype=DMS

From "Exploring the Waters of Massachusetts Bay":

Situated at the far entrance to Boston Harbor, the east side of Outer Brewster Island has an excellent drop-off starting in five feet of water. Huge boulders and rock slab form underwater caves, caverns and overhangs. A beautiful drop-off of hard rock boulders form caves and overhangs. The depth runs to 65 feet, and eventually the bottom turns to gravel. Visibility averages 30 to 40 feet at this site. Divers can swim parallel to shore or, to reach the caves, they can swim east to deeper water. Most of the caves are found at 50 to 60 feet of depth. Be sure to bring your lobster gear and a good dive light.

Ah, the Brewsters. Good spot for after-dive brewski's.
May also be a good lobster spot.

Interesting - your full post wouldn't appear in my browser (Firefox) until I replied. It was truncated in the URL. It looks ok with IE though.

I'm in!

I haven't done east side, but when I dove for bugs on the west side of Outer Brewster, my buddy and I came up with 15 of them in about a half hour. Boring bottom topography and low vis over there though.

There's an open boat on saturday the 18th of September, and they can accomodate 5 divers at 60$ a head. I'll book it as soon as I get confirmation from 4 of you... first come, first served.

OK hope I am not violating anything but it seems to me we end users set this up and chose a vendor but in any case

robrob and friend are in!!

PM me and let me know how we wanna play. I am fine scalloping as well but am just up for getting wet and checking out the wreck.

woohoo!

Matt:

Check your PMs. I hope I'm in time. Thanks.
