She unwisely posted it on this thread for everyone on the internet to see and potentially claim if it's not the one that was recently found but is subsequently found by another honest diver. Look up.
In my world people from all over work to help people they don't know and nice things happen that make for pleasant conversation around the dinner table. In your world everyone has an angle and if you can make people feel bad about themselves then your keyboard doesn't rest. I'm glad I live in my world along with my friends here on Scubaboard. I'll make sure and warn the kids to stay off your lawn.

You don't live in the real world. There are dishonest people who take advantage of nice, naive people like you who live in bubblegum fairy land, which is why we need to protect ourselves. Which is why when people find things on ScubaBoard they write "if you can describe the item to my satisfaction it's yours".

Haha, @caruso is only 44 according to his profile. A little early to adopt a "Get off my lawn" attitude, no?

So, how does this scam work?

The guy that posted now can say, "Nope. That's not it."? Then why post in the fofir place.

Or, is it everyone else saying they lost the same ring in the same place? "But I forgot to post about it."

We choose the world we live in. Cynicism is an unfortunate world view that takes the joy out of our efforts and makes us miss seeing the magic all around us. We can't eliminate the sociopaths and takers in the world but we can damn sure outnumber them and we do. If we didn't outnumber them by a huge margin you couldn't hire enough cops to keep order in this world.

I've been around the block and survived some damned dangerous associations. I'm not afraid. We really are surrounded by amazing people that do good things everyday for people they don't even know. They are everywhere. That is why you stand out.

I live in the real world. It's just a different real world than the one you see. It's going to be ok. I hope it gets better for you.

So, how does this scam work?

I gotta think about that for a sec. It's been a long day. Ok, I think I got it. In scenario 1, the ring is hers, she's reunited and it's end of story. In scenario 2, the ring is found at a later date and a dishonest person who is lurking on this board (because a registered SB member would never do this) remembers the ring description having read this thread and contacts the finder and says "that's my ring here's the description" and they get the ring sent to them and they pawn it for a few grand. Admittedly it's a long shot.
