Hit Buddy Dive at night. If you have a good light 6 or more will follow you like puppies.

I can attest that the tarpon at Buddy Dive will follow you around at night.

I wasn't totally surprised at this but I was amazed that I could hear the snap of their jaws as they grabbed munchies.

We tried to dive Salt Pier last night but were stopped by a guide from another resort who said it was mandatory to have a local guide for that dive, I had heard that was no longer required but am checking into it. We dove Salt City instead.

The resorts appear to tell everyone that but I'm not sure it's true. We just parked north of the pier and went in. No issue at all. This was last week during the day. There were others also diving at the time so I don't think this is true (or it's not enforced).

Although it may be an individual resort's policy to allow only guided night dives there, we checked with Cargill, the town harbor master and the marine park. All said there was no official poliy to that effecr.

Annoying puppies ~ like a pack of oversized table grazing Golden Retrievers. It wasn't bad when it was just 'Charlie' the lone Tarpon at Buddy-Capt Don reef. Now 6 or more all in the 4-5 foot range are common. And they are fearless ~ I've had them tail swat my head, swim head on into me ducking under me, knock me sideways rushing to get something lit up by a beam of light. They will follow all the way back to the dock. I've seen grown men come up near hysterical after their first experience screaming WHAT WAS THAT?!?!? OMG!! as they break the surface.

I was diving at Venice beach a couple of weeks ago for sharks teeth, the vis was about 6', and I was in 23' of water. It started to look like it was clouding over, so I decided to pop up and see how bad it was getting.

Wasn't cloudy, it was a huge school of tarpon passing overhead.

I hear a lot about shore diving in Bonaire. But how is the Boat Diving?

Being the old geezer that I am, I prefer boat diving. On the only shore dive I did, I fell in a hole and scratched the port on the LCD of my housing. And, of course, unless you're one heck of a swimmer boat diving is a requirement for Klein Bonaire dive sites!
