You can never have too many bolt snaps. I always carry several spares just in case I lose one or someone else in the group needs one. "Always be prepared." When you don't have a spare is when you will need it the most.

I recently replaced my brass snaps with stainless.
The springs corroded, and the triggers weren't functioning properly.
I bought a bunch from Lowe's, of all places.
Not bad, about $5 a piece, and they are 316 stainless.

That was a good point about barracuda and shiny objects.
None up here, but I'll keep it in mind in FL.

I can't really answer regarding the failure point,
but I have thought the same thing about the two hooks.
It looks like filing them off would work,
but questionable as to the structural integrity.

I was joking about the barracuda!

Ditto on the "you can never have too many boltsnaps". A quick headcount reveals 8 on my single tank rig, counting the one I added to an SMB. 10 if I carry a second SMB and a reel.

1 x primary regulator hose
1 x SPG
2 x HID lighthead
2 x backup lights
1 x strobe for nightdives
1 x orange SMB
1 x yellow SMB
1 x added to reel to replace brass boltsnap

I reckon it saves me a good 2lb of lead off my belt :D
