Wow - cool! No way that plane takes off at max weight as the CZM runway length is around 2675m. Pretty sure a trip 7-ER needs 3000m fully fueled and loaded. If they are just going to jump back over to CUN, they have plenty of runway.

Maybe a boat captain is following bubbles at Cantarell and can take a video...

I guess they normally take off to the East, though?

At about 8800' CZM can take just about anything Boeing has built. As the 737 matured and the fuselage was stretched the landing speed requirements increase and it requires a longer runway than all but the largest model of 777

Boeing:
BC-17 Globemaster III / 3,500ft (1,064m) / B, C, D (non-verified)

B737-700 / 3,500ft - 5,000ft (MLW) / B, C
B737-800 / 3,800ft - 5,800ft (MLW) / B, some C

B747-SCA / 6,000ft - 8,000ft (MLW) / B

Those look like landing weight & distance numbers to me. Try MTOW and distance.

Empty with half fuel will fly off of CZM without issue.

Minimum runway length for Boeing 777 take-offs is 2500m, plus a 240m runway end safety area...

I posted this before, but if you haven't read it yet and you are interested in aviation and Cozumel, here is my article on the subject of the Cozumel airport:

According to Flight Aware, the jet in question was a 777-300ER. It requires 10,50 feet for Take Off. Runway 05/23 at CZM is 10,165 feet. This means that it could not take off fully loaded. Landing at CZM wouldn't have been an issue since the jet would have been light after flying non-stop from EHAM (Amsterdam - Schipol International)

Since the flight back to EHAM would have been scheduled to depart from CUN, it probably deadheaded for the hop from CZM to CUN with a VERY light load (they weren't scheduled to pick up any pax in CZM so just crew & some fuel) then once on the ground in CUN, load the pax (& their baggage), refuel, turn the jet & depart as per the schedule. Those boarding the jet in CUN might not have even been aware that it diverted to CZM on the inbound flight, only that it was delayed.
