as fun as Blue Heron is.. are there are any other bridges we are allowed to dive between blue heron and key west?

Allowed won't be the issue...it is getting good vis and also the right blend of current flow, nutrient load, and where structure supports large aggregations of marine life.
The next place south we have found is inside the Boynton Inlet, on the last part of the south wall going in through the inlet to intracoastal. You swim out off the beach at the park.

There is supposedly some decent snorkeling near the inlet at Boca Lake, and I will be checking that out in the near future and shooting some video..
But don't expect another BHB. :)

Viz was a milky 25 ft today and my Suunto said 75 degrees. Very crowded for a random Tuesday!

Hello Trolls,

Two questions:

How do you enter BHB from the west side?

Has anybody had "any problems" with the locals?

2 lionfish--someone go get'em

IMG_2483.jpgWe went yesterday and saw a largeish lionfish under the 3rd rockpile east of the mirror wreck. A friend also said he saw a similar sized one on the sailboat wreck under the east bridge. Nice viz again yesterday and, as jet said; a little milky and around 25 ft. & 75F in the aqua realm!! Very nice to see jet and her exquisite new housing, wow!!

On BHB's west side--just get in anywhere toward the west from the beach--go out front for a while depending on how long before high slack tide you get in the water. Many get in a half hour to 2 hours before high slack tide depending on air supply and cold tolerance...........Just google BHB or Blue Heron Bridge for good info from at least 2 sites. There is also a Facebook page dedicated to BHB Dive Club.

Thanks for the heads up. That's a nice size looking lionfish.. might be big enough for a fillet...

Just a reminder for those that want to capture.. remember that there is no spearing at the bridge. I would just hate for some well meaning person meet up with FWC with an attitude.. For those that want to hunt them will have to be stealthy, or use a net.. Good luck! I hope they get caught!

Hey jimw, can you go after Lionfish in the park?

Nevermind, just saw Scuba Jenny's post. Thanks.

Would the small lionfish tamer be considered a speargun ? Glad to see the temps coming up
a bit and hoping the viz improves although 25 foot is certainly diveable !

Well, technically it's a pole spear, so yes. But.. it would be pretty easy to conceal.. if I were that type of personality..
