So, where can I go to see this video?? I'm dying to see what the puffer looked like.

And, aren't you afraid of those sheriffs down yonder when yer creepin around the sponge garden?? :D
May have to hit you back up on the pike blenny locale. . .

Kevin

Shot some video of a mantis shrimp that was scrambling out in the open around a piece of metal dragging a white "ball".
I followed it around till it reached it's hole and watched it try and try to drag this "balloon" down it's lair.
As I zoomed in I realized it was a small puffer fish deperately inflated.
I watched the shrimp roll the puffer in his grasp repeatedly striking and digging at him with his sharp side legs (which would just slide off the puffer's taunt abdomen).

Not concerned with Sheriff but always respect propellers.
I would like to post the video but have barely mastered posting pictures.
Kev- be happy to show you locale but there are no guarantees at the bridge.
I was unable to find another squat lobster only 2 days after lobster fest.
Oh well, always something cool to see.

Had an interesting 3 hour solo dive yesterday.
After a few minutes he succeeded in driving a hook-like side claw thru it's skin and in a whoosh the puffer was deflated and dragged down the hole to his doom.
Wild behavior sequence.
Saw more amourous pike blennies, spent a while on different gobies in the sponge garden and finished up at the bridge.
Found a really cooperative white box crab out doing his business in the daytime. Very cool.
All in all another great dive though I missed my tiny nudie spotter/photographer.
John

That's a wonderful description of what you saw. I think you were off to our right as we got in--looked like you had found somethin' interesting, so we politely stayed away--now I wish we had spyed a bit!! We headed on out to the blue derelict and found 2 NEW beer bottles. Not far away we saw a pipefish anyway. A nice dive!!

Jimw-
Yes, that was probably me.
Apology for not properly introducing myself before hand.
I really need to learn people's names first because they are usually gone by the time I drag myself out.
Without giving anything away, all that action was VERY shallow and the current still moving which didn't make it easy. My tripod would send little mini sandstorms swirling into the shot.
If I can sort it out I will post the vid.
There were some cool pipefish about, I saw 3 different types that dive.
Hope to see you there again soon.

A banner day. Water temps at 76F and viz an easy 30 foot. Great weather topside, a very
good day at the bridge !

you play hookey from work?? :D :D :D

A fine 109 minute dive with one of the Bouyancy Babes...we even discussed event planning.
Water temp was about 77 (warmer closer to my buddy) and viz was almost 25-30 feet. Bob joined us on our travels and we encountered pipefish, batfish, 2 eagle rays and this extremely friendly common octopus. Even though I was diving wet and got a bit cold we had a fine time.
She loved the scalloped seashell but grabbed the urchin shell and moved it about 10 feet from her nest. I'll never understand taste.

Deciding she didn't like this shell
