The Atlantic Spadefish on the west side were happy to rub themselves on his fins and mine.
I've never seen the rubbing before, thanks for video & conditions report !!

It’s one of my favorite things about spadefish. Hold your fin level and keep it still and they will all come up and take turns rubbing themselves on your fin. It’s lots of fun!

BHB did not disappoint. A Spotted Eagle Ray made a couple passes, as well a Nurse Shark. The Atlantic Spadefish on the west side were happy to rub themselves on his fins and mine. And of course all the common occurring denizens were there to be seen Octopus, Spotted Morays, Rainbow Parrots, Arrow Crabs, Peppermint Shrimp, Urchins, Schooling Spanish and Scaled Sardines, Blue Throat Pikeblennies, and Polka-dot Batfish to name a few. Respectively, Polka-dot Batfish, Quinn and the Spadefish, Rib Boat, Theresa's(my wife) 4th of July Berry Pie, and Video of Spadefish with my fins.

nice report, and that pie looks incredible

What a perfect way to spend Independence Day, enjoying the freedom of diving! I’m fascinated by the rubbing behavior of those Spade Fish, and have never heard of, much less observed it. Thanks for the video to document it.
Here’s hoping you and the other denizens (both two legged and finned) of BHB have a great July.

@heftysmurf the last image is a Ceriantheopsis americana, a tube dwelling anemone.

Went to the bridge for diving on the 4th of July. Arrived at 0630 for a 0738 high tide. The park was not crowded when we arrived. Which was my expectation for a tide that early. Visibility was 40ft, sea temp was 84f. We entered the westside at 0650, and exited at about 0900. The park was crowded when we exited from the dive also meeting my expectations. Picnic tables and grills had been occupied and I am sure they would stay that way until the park closed. Sheriffs already had the entrance blocked off by that point.

Awesome! Thanks a ton! And yeah, super glad we got there about 0630 as well (Leaving the house at 0430). Getting out the grilling had me hangry! Made for a long day as I got home around 1300 after dropping buddies off. Cooked for a 4th get together in bed by 10. I was beat!

Here was my first dive on the Bridge. I'll have one more video on my dive week there and it will drop next week. (Lumix LX-10, BigBlue 4600s, no filtering)

Since it's your first time, did you hire a guide?

All of the spade fish near the boat under the east bridge are really cool.
