Interesting that the Sunset Waters website is still up and running with no notice of closing. Reservation link still seems to be active, at least 1st few steps. How about Sunset Divers? My impression was that they were independent but, even if correct, I would imagine they got the majority of their business from the resort next door.

Sad, was on my short list for a visit in the near future. Maybe it will emerge and be available once again.

Good diving, Craig

We originally booked via Cardonna Dive. My stomach hit the floor when I got the e-mail on my Blackberry with the subject line "Sunset Waters/Sunset Divers CLOSED". I dropped everything, synced up my laptop, got online a downloaded the full e-mail. We were originally booked for 3, from 9/17 - 9/25, with $3000 of deposit paid.

THANK YOU to Kim @ Cardonna for getting a 100% refund of the deposit.
Thank you God for watching over us, and having us make the RIGHT decision not to pay in full right away (something we usually do). After months of planing, we had to cram re-planning into 1 night. We're re-booked at another resort.

Our thoughts & prayers go out to the folks still fighting to get their deposits back. Also, our thoughts & prayers to the folks at Sunset Divers who have been fighting just to get paid for prior months of operation from the Hotel.

I hate to hear this. My wife and I spent a week of honeymoon there in 2003 have been tossing arond the idea of returning. It was my understanding that Sunset Divers was seperate from Sunset Waters but I would guess that they may have using facilities that belonged to the resort. I hope that the dive operation can be salvaged because they absolutely wonderful.

Sadly, it's my understanding that Sunset Divers (shop owners originally based out of Colorado), got the hardest shafting by Sunset Waters. They haven't been paid since March.

Wow, thats really heart breaking. Mike and his crew ran a top notch operation when we were there. I hope they find a way to stay in business because I think it would be a terrible loss to the community to lose them.

Hubby and I will be going to Curacao in November with two other couples (dive shop trip). We were originally going to stay at Sunset Waters and have been shifted to Breezes. I've read fabulous to horrible reviews about Breezes on a hotel review site, so I've figured it's fine but not overly fancy, which is just our style. I also understand the rooms at the resort are in various stages of age (good or not so great). Any advice anyone has on working with Breezes for the best possible trip would be appreciated. We are to have oceanfront rooms and would like to be together and get the best rooms (building) we can be in. Good to hear that Ocean Encounters is a solid operation. Do they offer snorkeling trips? Two of us are nondivers, and we have to admit we're not overly disappointed at the change considering the spa credit we'll be getting! :D My main concern was a dive operation as good as Sunset Waters for the divers.

My husband and I both loved Sunset Divers -they treated me as one of the family and gave me the same gear storage for my snorkeling gear and wetsuit. They are great people, and they didn't deserve this. I'm honestly not surprised about the resort; it was pretty "round around the edges" in 2007, and the changes in management made me wonder if things were in a downward spiral. Still sad for the dive crew and the great workers at the resort. Hopefully the resort can bounce back with proper ownership. Thanks.
