Best time for Whale Sharks in Palau Weh?

Hi, when is the best time to see whale sharks in Palau Weh. We plan to be there in the next week or, is there a better place in Indonesia to see them???

Dear jpslim,

hate to say it but NO guaranteed whale shark sightings in Pulau Weh. Not even a hint of a whale shark season. Whale sharks aren't all that predictable and migration patterns and distribution of the species are not very well understood. Still; this doesn't mean that you shouldn't dive Pulau Weh and/or Indonesia because the good news is that there's ALWAYS a chance you get to see one anyway!

just came back from Pulau Weh on Wed... spent a week on Gapang Beach, 6 days of diving...Jan-Feb should be the best season for whale shark & manta sightings but we saw NONE but nevertheless, Diving ROCKS!! pristine tropical parasdise with beautiful coral reefs lined with huge sea fans & soft/hard corals, saw hundreds of moray eels (zebra, honey-comb, white-eyed, giant etc) with cleaner shrimps, harlequin ghost pipefish, pipiehorses, snakeeel, lionfishes, scorpionfishes, blennies & gobies, schools of barracudas, trevellies, & many more...we also did the solphie rickmer wreck which is pretty cool...1st intentional deco dive..will be posting a trip report soon

I am sure u're going to enjoy diving or just chilling out there....have fun, dive safe & say Hi to all on the island, esp the Lumba Lumba folks on behalf of me...thanks.

How did you get there? at one momment Lumba lumba was thinking about organisisng a charter from Bandah Aceh: did they or did you have to jump from one palce to the other?
