Good responses. I probably should have created price categories.

$10
$20
$30
etc

Which would probably be a good Christmas time thread for the sig others to see.

bought my first regulator, Mares Proton 12,$150, used it for 3 years, did not want to pay to have it serviced, sold it on ebay for $180, bought a brand new Mares Prestige 12, $150...go figure !!

Best money I ever spent on dive gear was to fill my save-a-dive kit with bits from the bargain bin at the dive shop. Spare parts like clips, zip ties, regulator mouthpiece, along with some velcro and some surgical tubing goes a long way.

If you consider the length of service over the years compared with initial cost, I've got a bunch of gear I've had for a quarter of a century that, spread over the years, has been very, very inexpensive: My old Healthways mask, my old Scuba Pro Jets and my Mares Power Planas, and my old US Divers snorkel have lasted this long. I consider my earliest gear to be functional and sturdy.

Oh, and I just bought a set of stainless spring straps out of the bargain bin, too. Sweet deal, and very easy to get fins on and off quickly.

The best money I ever spent was on training. As for gear, I don't make stupid purchases so they all rock! Lol.

Best money ever spent was on my second set of gear. Hardly a bad choice in the lot. The first set of gear. Umm. Not so good.

My SMB. Besides making safety stops a piece of cake, it got deployed when I got caught in a downwelling in Cozumel. The extra, controllable lift was quite comforting. I picked up a set of Scubapro regs off of Craigslist two weeks ago. MK 20 UL, S600, R190, Oceanic SPG, all in great shape. (The deal also included a Mares MR 12 reg set and a Wenoka Squeeze all for $150. I'm swapping out the R190 for an overhauled G250V, having the MK 20 UL overhauled/upgraded to a MK 25 UL, and overhauling the S600.
