Hi all,

I see this topic discussed as a side topic but never directly.

Who has the best margaritas on the island that cocktail perfectionists will enjoy?

Any other local non-margarita cocktails I should be trying?

I've been to a few bars but certainly not all of them. My personal favorite margaritas are at La Choza. I also like the ones at Thirsty Cougar (the lime ones, on the rocks, not those fruity frozen ones).

I will be down there in 2 weeks to test your suggestions :)

On the East side there’s a beach bar called ‘Welcome to Miami’ (I think?) they make them in front of you. They grind spearmint in stone pots then squeeze fresh limes and grapefruit into the pot and add a good amount of liquor - fantastic!! Mojitos are good also. I generally like straight liquor on the rocks but have to admit those margaritas are absolutely refreshing drinks.

They have also opened a place on town near Mega. They are my favourite.

Hmmm...,

If you are talking about the fancy stuff, maybe La Inombrable:

+1 on the Miami joint, fun crew, heavy pours.

ask for a Paloma drink instead, and request a blanco tequila like; "Ocho", Arette, Cascahuin.
and perhaps you will never ask for another margarita again !

Hopefully their drinks are better than the food. Had dinner there last night, probably worst Coz meal we’ve ever had (& expensive)! Seemed to us that they way trying way to hard to be upscale & trendy. My bet is they won’t last unless they can draw in enough cruisers wanting fancy drinks.

Call it touristy, basic, or what-have-you, but I've come to enjoy getting one of the huge Margaritas at Woody's right off the Plaza at least once each trip. It's not top shelf, but not bad -- and the food is decent (with non-Mexican options if desired), the live music is usually pretty good, and they have a lot of big screen TVs with different sports on. FWIW, I'm definitely a "house Margarita" kind of guy -- I've gotten into premium Bourbon, Scotch, etc. in the past, but have decided that ignorance is bli$$ and that I will stay happy with the basic Margaritas rather than get into the premium tequilas, etc.

Another vote for El Moro. I don't drink a lot of margaritas because most places make them too sweet for me. Not so at El Moro. I just had one with dinner yesterday. Delicious.
