i think perdix is better than teric battery wise..

I have changed the battery in my Perdix several times. Never needed to change out the battery in my Teric...

I understand what you're saying, but the replaceable battery was the main reason I decided to go with the Perdix instead of the Teric. The Teric is too hardware/utilities dependent for me. Not to mention my lack of ability to keep up with charging cycles.

Yeah, I am on the same wave length as you. Also, the size of the Perdix makes it more difficult for me to lose. The battery issue is a real Ockam's Razor moment for me.

Low battery? Throw in an Ultimate Lithium that has a shelf life of about 20 years, or a copper top alkaline that has a shelf life of up to 10 years, or a cheapo AA if that's all you can find. It is just too idiot proof (read Mark-proof).

I was just joking around. The battery issue is "pros and cons" for both the Teric and Perdix.

I definitely think the Teric merits a different approach to "battery maintenance". With my Perdix, I wait until the battery is low and then change it. I keep a spare in a small ziploc bag in the Perdix case, so I could deal with it without problem if the Perdix said "Low Battery" just as I was about to splash for a dive.

A computer with a rechargeable battery needs to be managed differently. My cell phone doesn't need to be charged every day, yet I do it anyway. It's easier to just have a routine of putting it on its wireless charger every night when I go to bed. That way, I would have to actually forget 2 nights in a row to be a problem.

Similarly, with the Teric, I think a good approach is, when on a dive trip, just make it part of my routine to put the Teric on its charger every night. It will go, I think, a week or so of diving without NEEDING to be charged. So, even if I were to forget 1 or 2 or even 3 nights, it would still be fine and not leave me wanting to dive and holding a dead computer.

The Teric holds a charge pretty well, too, so even if I forget to charge it before leaving to go on a trip, it will generally have enough charge still on it to handle my first day (or two or three) of diving. All I have to remember to do is put it on the charger the first or second night that I am at my dive destination.

Also, while I would not wear a Perdix around as a watch, I have done that with my Teric and I think it's fine. So, it lends itself to having it with me at all times, which makes it easier to remember to set it on the charger when I'm going to bed. What I have NOT done is, now that I have 2 Terics, wear them both around at the same time. LOL That might look pretty dorky! OTOH, the charge lasts so long, that I could really alternate wearing them daily, and thus only take one charger on a trip and charge each one on alternate nights. Wear them both on the day's dives. Leave one in its case in my reg bag after the day's diving, where they normally live anyway.

Like I said, pros and cons. If you "manage" the Teric the same way you would a Perdix, you'll probably be disappointed sooner or later. But, if you manage it like it deserves, then it's still easy to manage and you should never miss a dive.

Shearwater. Well worth the , a great computer. I have the perdix, no ai, and have had no issues with it. And from what I hear if you do have a problem the customer service is top notch.
