Thank you in advance for your input!

Never been to either Belize or Coz and am looking for recommendations for mid-November. AOW diver, 100+ international dives, traveling solo, looking for good exciting drift diving with potential for pelagics, if possible. Was contemplating Palau but a bit too far/too $$ without the significant other.

Recommendations for locations, dive shops, hotels, good chow, bars etc. much appreciated. Would like some mellow nightlife and a place to swim.

Other than that, am wide open to suggestions.

Thank you SB!

John

I would suggest Hotel Cozumel and diving with Dive Paradise. They have everything on your list, and the package is very affordable. Good luck!

almost no chance of pelegics in Cozumel, couple of nurse sharks are possible, might see a reef shark if very lucky, november will be just the very start of eagle ray season in Cozumel so you might see some of those, mid november has chance of your diving getting blown out due to storms rolling in from the north that will cause the harbor master to close the port to almost all dive boats leaving, november is iffy in regard to this, could have zero weather issues or a week of missed diving, more likely a little bit of weather, lose a day or none, losing the whole week is rare in nov

Really depend on your budget and what you are willing to do. If you locate in Belize City dive with Sea Sports Belize. They are great and have trained many of the dive masters and instructors in the area. If you want to go to Caye Caulker you can dive with Frenchie's or Belize Dive Services. You probably won't get much drift diving in Belize compared to Cozumel. We've had dives off of Caye Caulker, Ambergris Caye, Belize Reef off of St. George's Caye, and Lighthouse Reef and Turneffe. The best location was Lighthouse Reef. It was like diving in an aquarium. We saw reef sharks, turtles, rays, but mostly schools of smaller fish. No drift diving. It will cost more to dive out toward Lighthouse. You would need to do a live aboard or one of the resorts out that way.

Best drift dive and place to see pelagics would be The Elbow at Turneffe.
Best places for the hotels, bars, good chow, mellow night life would be San Pedro, Caye Caulker or Placencia. Lots of good dive shops at all three locations.

Ralph
